Description

Silent Angel employs an uncompromising approach to electronic circuit design and execution. Isolating, filtering and reducing noise preserves the integrity of the source and delivers a pure signal to connected components. As with all Silent Angel products, our objective is to ensure that the device operates with a stable system voltage, sends precisely synchronised packets and reduces extraneous output noise. We have discovered that even the smallest improvement can slightly enhance sound quality, and the implementation of many small improvements can unleash the maximum potential of high-resolution streaming networks. The Bonn NX is the culmination of everything we have learned about audio-grade network switch engineering: it delivers the highest sonic performance currently available.

The new chassis design consists of two layers of carefully selected, different materials: the inner layer is made of galvanised steel, while the outer layer is of thick, high-quality aluminium alloy. This extravagant construction maximises shielding and eddy current control whilst damping vibration and noise. The sleek, modern design adds great aesthetic appeal, making the Bonn NX a functional work of audio art.

Advanced options for serious audiophiles
The 12 V DC power connector bypasses the internal switching power supply module, allowing connection to an external linear power supply (Forester) for a significant performance upgrade.
The gold-plated earthing terminal provides greater noise reduction.
The LED light switch allows users to turn off the port status indicator.
The class-leading clock receiver module allows external clock input.

Clock and power supply circuit.

1. TCXO Clock (25MHz): Eliminates spurious frequencies and generates a pure, precise timing signal. Ultra-low phase noise and high-precision signal output as a clock source for our Ethernet switch system.
2. TCXO clock power supply circuit: Uses multi-stage power filter technology, eliminating crosstalk and noise at different frequencies of 10MHz, 100MHz and 1GHz, and supplying purified power to the TCXO module.
3. Power supply circuit for a switching system: an ultra-low-noise voltage regulator circuit capable of handling a wide dynamic range of power. It features a highly efficient circuit design and fast response time. Developed using the TPS56623x series, which maintains lower output ripple under ALL load conditions.
4. AC power filter circuit: the high-isolation common-mode choke circuit for AC power input prevents noise pollution from AC power sources, such as other grid-connected devices or power systems.
5. Exclusive and custom Silent Angel power module: wide dynamic range AC-to-DC power supply module. Safe, stable and low-ripple protection circuit, well covered by an aluminium heatsink.
6. Connect to the optional linear power supply. DC jack for external 12V DC LPS.
7. Reception of the external clock (gold-plated, at 25 MHz) at the port of entry.
8. Internal/external clock selector.

Vibration damping isolators
Made from high-purity solid stainless steel, Silent Angel resonance control feet dampen mechanical energy from internal and external sources, reducing mechanical and electrical noise, static electricity, and so on. The result is improved dynamics and greater fine detail resolution.

Designed for HD music streaming
Bonn NX creates a dedicated HiFi zone to effectively isolate your audio devices from the rest of the digital traffic, thereby eliminating noise and transmitting data with extreme timing precision. The implementation of an isolated “network ecosystem” for audio eliminates degradation caused by the storm of network interference and latency issues caused by bandwidth-hungry activities from PCs and other connected devices.

Dedicated clock module, TCXO: Silent Angel’s TCXO (temperature-compensated crystal oscillator) is more accurate than the crystal clocks found in other network switches, thereby reducing latency issues and the effects of jitter.

Improvement of the fluctuation effect: Distortion is a common by-product of high-frequency network packet transmission. The Bonn NX reduces jitter to 369 ps, whereas typical switches exhibit 705 ps.

Optimised for high-resolution music applications
