Description
Class A Push-Pull Valve Power Amplifier with KT170 – Flagship Model
El Soul 170P it is our latest power amplifier, developed after more than 32 years of Cayin's experience in valve amplification. Designed to offer exceptional musicality and power, it adopts an architecture Class A with powerful valves TUNG-SOL KT170. This is also, furthermore, the first time that we implement Class A amplification within our Soul series, with the aim of presenting a fresh and emotional take on the signature sound of the KT170 valves.
El Soul 170P offers both operating modes Stereo as Mono, to adapt to speakers with higher power requirements.
Valves and Topology
At the heart of the Soul 170P are four valves KT170 TUNG-SOL, operating in a configuration Class A push-pull. The amplifier also incorporates:
- Voltage amplification valves: 2 × 12AU7
At this stage, two JJ 12AU7 valves are used, which are responsible for the initial signal gain, providing the necessary voltage amplification before reaching the output stage. Their low level of distortion and noise contributes to stable signal handling. - Driver valves: 2 × 6SN7
Used in the driver stage, the JJ 6SN7 valves are renowned for their musicality and powerful delivery, providing an emotionally captivating and analytically detailed sound. - Rectifier valve: 1 × 17AX4GT
This classic rectifier valve supplies a stable DC voltage to the driver stage, ensuring reliable performance and a refined sound with the musical warmth characteristic of valves.
Flexible Operating Modes
- Stereo Mode: 60W (Ultralinear, per channel)
- Mono mode120W (Ultralinear, per channel)
The user can easily switch between Stereo and Mono modes using a switch located on the rear panel, allowing the Soul 170P to be used in both stereo configurations and high-power monoblock systems.
Negative Feedback Loop (NFB)
To achieve a more refined and natural sound presentation, the Soul 170P uses a circuit of carefully adjusted negative feedback. Cayin's engineers have applied a moderate amount of global feedback, achieving an ideal balance between control and musical expression.
Furthermore, the Soul 170P offers two selectable NFB levels: High and low, allowing the user to adjust the amplifier's sound signature.
- Lowmore open, expressive and emotionally engaging sound
- Highgreater control, improved precision, and a more analytical presentation
This flexibility allows the Soul 170P to reveal its full character with different types of speakers and musical genres.
Dynamic Automatic Bias
The Soul 170P incorporates a circuit Dynamic Auto Bias fully integrated, which allows power valve replacement without the need for manual adjustments. This system precisely regulates the operating status of each KT170 valve, ensuring optimal matching, extending its service life and always guaranteeing safe operation.
Component Selection and Internal Construction
This amplifier is mounted hand-wired with point-to-point wiring, ensuring minimal signal loss and low interference. Key components include:
- Internal wiring silver-plated
- Aluminium alloy feet with treatment antiresonant
- Toroidal mains transformer and wideband output transformers, both hand-wound and custom
Integrated Protections
- Circuit of soft valve opening (60-second delay)
- Controlled protection logic MCU
- Indicators BMI to detect power valve faults and automatically activate the protection mode
Connectivity
- Tickets1 × XLR, 1 × RCA
- Speaker outputsterminal blocks for 4Ω and 8Ω
