Description
The use of the ST-1500 with any AV equipment, including valve and solid-state devices, improves sound reproduction quality. The most significant results are achieved when the power conditioner is used with power amplifiers. During highly dynamic parts of an audio track (for example, everyone very loudof a full symphony orchestra, sounds of large ethnic drums, experimental electronic music bass parts, cinematic SFX) a powerful amplifier must draw substantial current peaks from a power supply, which can reach magnitudes of 50 to 100 A, while maintaining voltage levels without dips. An ordinary household socket, which is connected to a distribution board via long electrical cables, is not capable of providing such current levels due to the relatively high output impedance. The ST-1500 has a very low output DC resistance, so it can easily supply high current peaks without facing voltage drops. This is achieved through the use of a transformer with a very large core that results in a very small magnetic flux density. In turn, the response time of a power amplifier to a changing audio signal is reduced, which benefits transient reproduction, especially in the low-frequency bands. An audio reproduction system exhibits a wider dynamic range, resulting in musical instruments with a more realistic sound and cinematic SFX.
Another issue with the power supply of high-quality equipment is noise in electrical networks. They appear when electric motor switches and controllers, dimmers and regular lighting, as well as switched-mode power supply units of modern AV equipment are used nearby. High-quality CEE 7/3 sockets are galvanically isolated from an external electrical network. The transformer is equipped with a reliable electrostatic shield. Incoming electrical interference is counteracted using a mutual cancellation principle. The secondary winding of the transformer is split into two halves and has an artificial centre tap, which is connected to the earth terminals of each power socket. The ST-1500 transformer was designed to operate as low-pass filters with a cut-off at 800 Hz, since all mains interference occurs at much higher frequencies. Secondly, the filtering effect is caused by the self-induction of a very large core, so the magnetic flux cannot change instantaneously under a transient disturbance. All the aforementioned technical aspects make it possible to almost completely eliminate mains noise, providing a reliable, high-quality power supply to audio equipment.
When the power conditioner is first switched on, the transformer is subject to an inrush current of approximately 20 A during the magnetisation of the transformer core. Because of this, a soft start is implemented in the power conditioner. A special ballast resistor limits the current surge so that other electrical equipment connected to the same mains supply is not affected.
Audes power conditioners feature overload protection and thermal protection, which switches off the transformer if the transformer temperature reaches 90 °C. Once the temperature drops to 75 °C, the device will automatically reconnect to the mains electricity supply. The transformer was designed to maximise the number of turns in the primary winding. Because of this, under no-load conditions, the power consumption of the ST-1500 is low.
The normal operating ambient temperature range for the ST-1500 is 10 to 35 °C. At lower temperatures, additional heating is required to prevent condensation. At higher temperatures, additional external cooling is required.
The ST-1500 produces practically no acoustic noise, allowing it to be used not only with high-end home audio equipment, home cinemas and performance venues, but also in sound recording studios.
The ST-1500 comes with a built-in DC blocker.

José León Martínez (verified owner) –
The Audes ST 1500 unit is the Hi-fi component that has most increased the performance of my audio system. From my reference power cables to, I believe, even my interconnect cables.
Not forgetting the CD player, which makes me think of attack, decay, a 3D soundstage and, in macro and micro dynamics. In baroque operas I can distinguish every word of old Italian. From there I move on to a vocal jazz CD and I jump because it cannot be.
The Hegel Mohican is good, but this sounds like vinyl. I'm switching to vinyl too for vocal jazz, and my heart sinks. The LPs of Beethoven's string quartets push my speakers to the limit of their capabilities, with a cello that goes down as low as impossibly deep for my cabinets, whilst violins 1 and 2 can be distinguished from the viola.
I repeat, it is the best purchase for my CD player, turntable, phono stage, and, of course, for my amplifier and loudspeakers. It is like listening to music at 12 at night at the weekends, but with power to spare.
Thanks to D, Francisco and Daniel. Once again a 10 out of 10 for this purchase.
