Description

Small mini-monitor style loudspeakers have become very popular amongst those who desire high-quality sound with minimal visual impact. Although the mini-monitor type of loudspeaker can be quite precise and, in fact, sounds better than many larger loudspeakers that obviously have not been crafted with the same care, the Achilles' heel of a small loudspeaker is bass extension and soundstage size. A large loudspeaker can produce low octaves and provide you with a huge soundstage ideal for large orchestras and high-energy rock; however, they can be an eyesore and visually dominate the room. ProAc has set out to try and achieve in a small loudspeaker a sound normally associated with a larger loudspeaker, in particular the bass response.

The DB1 cabinet is slightly larger than the previous model; the cabinet is made from varying thicknesses of high-density MDF and additionally damped by bitumen damping to control cabinet resonance. A newly designed long-throw bass driver with a raised spider and linear motor system was used and placed on the rear. The cone is made from mikapulp which is then coated with elastic and fitted with our ProAc acrylic pole damping phase plug. The new crossover was designed to provide a flatter response at high levels and the tweeter is a 1-inch ProAc silk dome similar to that used in the ProAc Response D2. The mid and high frequencies of the DB1 are superb and, in the ProAc tradition, are low in coloration and high in detail. The new bass driver delivers a wonderful, punchy, extended bass quality and somewhat towards a larger enclosure.

The DB1 also provides a larger soundstage normally associated with larger cabinets. Specifications
