Description
Cayin HA-2A
Class A NOS valve headphone amplifier
El Cayin HA-2A it is a valve headphone amplifier created for those seeking an intimate, rich and deeply musical listening experience. It forms part of Cayin's prestigious HA series, a family where the brand has poured decades of experience into valve amplification design, but in this case with a particularly compact, elegant approach designed for very high-end desktop systems.
Its design maintains Cayin's classic aesthetic, featuring a refined front panel, illuminated VU meters and a build that radiates solidity from the very first moment. But what truly matters is on the inside: the HA-2A is Cayin's first headphone amplifier designed entirely around valves New Old Stock vintage, carefully selected and paired to deliver a warm, natural and harmoniously rich sound experience.
The team uses a five-valve setup, with a RCA 17AX4GT as a grinder, two Amperex ECF82/6U8 in the pre-amplification stage and two Amperex 17BF11 in the output stage. This choice is no coincidence: Cayin harnesses the unique character of these historical valves to achieve a sound of great tonal beauty, body, delicacy, and a presentation that is especially pleasant for long listening sessions.
Unlike many modern headphone amplifiers that aim to impress with immediate listening, the Cayin HA-2A opts for a more classical, more organic and more human musicality. Its sound stands out for an expressive midrange, a smooth yet open high end, and a coherent soundstage, with that feeling of fluidity that only good valve amplification can offer when it is well designed.
The circuit works in Single-ended Class A, a setup highly praised for its purity, naturalness and harmonic richness. In addition, Cayin uses cabling point-to-point, a traditional solution that shortens the signal path and preserves sound transparency and refinement. It is not a marketing decision: it is a classic, serious way of building quality audio. The HA-2A also stands out for its versatility. It features inputs RCA and XLR, as well as headphone outputs 4-pin XLR, 4.4 mm balanced y 6.35 mm single-ended. Additionally, it allows you to select different impedance levels — low, medium and high — to better adapt to headphones with different load and sensitivity requirements.
With a frequency response of 20 Hz to 50 kHz ±3 dB, a signal-to-noise ratio of 100 dB and sufficient power to drive a wide variety of headphones, the Cayin HA-2A presents itself as a particularly attractive option for those wishing to enter the universe of valve headphone amplification with a serious, musical and very well-built device. Its compact format and weight of approximately 10 kg makes it ideal for a high-end desktop system, combining physical presence, aesthetic beauty and a sound quality that invites you to listen to music at your leisure.
El Cayin HA-2A it is not simply a headphone amplifier: it is a small piece of sonic craftsmanship. A device designed for those who understand that listening to music is not just about analysing details, but about being moved by them.
Now, with the addition of the HA-2A, which features a panel design and style consistent with the HA series, it boasts dual cool-light VU meters. At the same time, the HA-2A is also a member of Cayin's new desktop system, forming a four-piece suite with the iDAP-8, iDAC-8 and iHA-8. The iHA-8 is a fully balanced Class A solid-state headphone amplifier, whilst the HA-2A is a single-ended Class A vacuum tube headphone amplifier. Together with the iDAP-8 digital transport and the iDAC-8 DAC, they form a compact desktop audio headphone system, combining the characteristics of valve and solid-state amplification for different sound experiences.
This set of new products, known as «888+2», made its official debut at the headphone exhibition held at the Guangzhou International Headphone Expo in December. To minimise conflicts with the production schedule and supply chain constraints, we have to launch the new products in multiple phases, and the HA-2A will lead the race as Chapter One of the 888+2 four-piece suit. The official launch of the 888 combo will be announced once the product is ready for production.
