Description
The new Storm Mk2 turntable
The new Storm Mk2 turntable weighs 28 kg and offers all the advantages that mass-loaded turntables can provide. The Storm Mk2 delivers rock-solid bass, a stable and focused midrange, and clear, detailed high-frequency reproduction, producing a sound that possesses both delicate, natural musicality and immense authority.
The new design of the Storm Mk2 turntable replaces one of our best-selling turntables, improving the design with a wider foot spacing that offers greater stability; better damping of platter resonances and a heavier platter; quality design to improve sound quality, not just for its own sake, something Acoustic Signature is known for worldwide.
Of course, the Storm Mk2 also has very low mechanical noise thanks to our exclusive Tidorfolon bearing design, and an externally located motor, operated by our BetaDIG regenerative power supply which ensures perfect rotation of the new platter. Plus, we think it looks great too!
The design
More ways to surprise. The new Storm Mk2 is a consistently further developed design. Everything is combined with the award-winning performance, elegance and comfort that have made the massive turntable series so successful.
Get ready to experience the Storm Mk2 series, which is now perfectly tailored to your unique style. Flawless surface quality combined with the latest technology and flexibility.
The Storm Mk2 turntable includes the platter with 8 silencers and the latest version of the Beta Dig motor electronics, elegantly positioned beneath the chassis. It can accommodate any tone arm from 9 to 12 inches. It is possible to mount 3 tone arms at the same time.
The transmission system
In the new Storm Mk2 turntable, we combine a solid 45 mm aluminium base with a solid 50 mm aluminium platter. This is a perfect match for the Tidorfolon bearing that supports the platter and the interchangeable armboards.
A brand new fully digital motor with Beta DIG electronic control provides perfect speed stability and is easily integrated into the base. The carefully crafted aluminium platter with its 8 silencers is another part that makes the sound of a Storm Mk2 turntable so exceptional for its price point.
The dish
The Storm Mk2 turntable comes with a precision-machined aluminium platter that includes 8 silence modules to dampen resonances. It is produced from a solid piece of soft aluminium to improve its resonance behaviour. The platter is also coated on the back with a high-damping material to obtain excellent results. The thickness of 50 mm gives it a weight of 11 kilograms.
You can select from an 8-silencer platter or our special 24-silencer version, which is a true masterpiece. This high weight in combination with the smooth-running Tidorfolon bearing is exclusive to the great musical experience that the Storm Mk2 offers.
The engine
At Acoustic Signature, we believe that a turntable motor must have enough energy to accelerate the platter, but not influence it during rotation. We have achieved this goal by using a European-made synchronous motor with our own cutting-edge electronic motor control.
This motor system is absolutely stable in its rotational speed and, in combination with the digital control, becomes user-friendly and reliable. The Storm Mk2 motor is on the rear left side of the turntable near the plinth. As it has no contact with the plinth, no vibration can be transferred to the turntable.
The bearing
The platter bearing is the heart of every turntable and Acoustic Signature has invented a bearing with ideal performance characteristics of exact fit, extremely low noise, very low friction and long-term stability. The platter bearing spindle is made of special hardened steel and is precision ground.
The bearing housing uses perfectly matched sintered bronze inserts that are self-lubricating. Our bearing design is developed to ensure smooth operation and a firm shaft fit.
We achieved this by using Sinter bushes and our Tidorfolon bearing. Here we have ultra-tight tolerances and our Tidorfolon bearing is maintenance-free for life. We have such confidence in this bearing that it is covered by a 10-year product warranty.
