Description
The Acoustic Signature Thunder turntable, in its third Mk 3 version, features the concept of a mass-loaded system, unlike turntables whose platter or sub-chassis rests on a flexible (spring) suspension. A mass-loaded system practically does not respond to external disturbances, such as vibrations in an equipment rack or in the air. Internal vibrations in a massive chassis or record, when correctly designed, are also successfully suppressed.
The load-bearing chassis with a special aerodynamic shape is machined on a precision machine from a 70 mm thick aluminium plate and is mounted on three aluminium supports with threaded tips for alignment on the equipment frame surface.
A balanced 50 mm high platter is additionally damped in a proven, patented way: instead of soft materials, it features balanced vibration absorbers in the form of brass cylinders (24 pieces) with polished ends, which are visible through the holes in the full leather record mat (see photo). Acoustic Signature presents the third generation of vibration absorbers that effectively damp vibrations in the important hearing frequency range of approximately 400 to 6000 Hz. The thrust bearing also features the company's original design, a self-lubricating, silent tidorvolon design (see image at the bottom of the page).
An electric outboard motor is also an effective solution for eliminating the source of vibrations in the chassis. An asynchronous motor is used, controlled by a digital generator with DMC-2+ microprocessor control, which regulates the disc rotation speed and power consumption. The DMC-2+ control unit is remote and can power up to three motors, to which it is connected via a cable with RS-232 connectors. The metal casing of the motor is damped on the inside and mounted on rubber feet.

I've had several turntables over the years, but the Audioacustics
Signature Thunder is and I've said it many times but this time it's true
The definitive one. It's more than good. Best wishes
